THE OSCAR 2009: The day when Hollywood looked away

Oscars this year are historic. Not only because previous fears extinguished, Laurence Mark and Bill Condon have offered us one of the best ceremonies of recent years, but because Hollywood is no longer Hollywood.
Of the 24 statues scattered tonight, only 8 will stay on American soil. It is a historical fact that reinforces the reason why "Slumdog Millionaire" has been the big winner of the night. The Academy had to decide between the return to classicism and old Hollywood offering "The curious case of Benjamin Button" or bet on the global and common identity reflecting film "Slumdog Millionaire." And his clear victory has not stopped doubts. Tonight, Hollywood has accomplished the shift that had begun many years. And perhaps what has made possible more sharply. With a British film and indie production, filmed abroad, with unknown actors of the footage and spoken in Hindi. Imagine a victory of "Slumdog Millionaire" in previous years ceremonies have been a utopia. Today is a reality that reflects the tremendous change in the mindset of the Academy.
and has won fairly. And with the merits of a film that was to plan travel video store shelves and is finished becoming the big winner of the year. I say once again: Where some see a gimmicky and superficial portrait of poverty in India, we see cruelty and reality unfiltered. Where some see a tricky film, we see a movie more realistic and efficient, to the heart and awakens a sea of \u200b\u200bemotions.
His victory is the heading to the rise of independent film or low cost and a tribute to all those films that did not make such a feat in previous years but that it opened the way for his victory.
In contrast to a groundbreaking ceremony, the awards did not arouse any major surprises. The only Oscar that broke some predictions was that of Sean Penn, which posits the U.S. as one of the best actors of the last generations. Mickey Rourke could only applaud cariacontencido an Oscar that many had already been delivered. justice was latent with the prize for Kate Winslet exultant have practiced recognizing the shampoo bottle in front of the bathroom mirror the feeling of having an Oscar in his hands. I no longer have to do more.
Heath Ledger received a posthumous tribute to the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor and Penelope Cruz finally became the first English actress to get an Oscar. Nervous, took the stage to assert himself as the great actress who is and thank all those who supported her in the past, with first reference to Almodóvar. The
Oscar closes another season with the feeling of having witnessed the consummation of the change. The question now arising is very clear: will the Academy in this way or have been only a mirage? At the ceremony number 82 Academy Awards know.

THE OSCAR 2009: Our night

remaining only a few hours to reach the great time of year. The Oscars are about to arrive and these are moments minutes before making the final touches to our predictions, opt for a surprise and wait impatiently for the moment on the red carpet.
is a night of friends, fun, movie. A night to enjoy something that we had been waiting a long time. One thing must be clear: our favorite almost never win. So it's best to relax and take this as a wonderful show, perhaps the best in the world, and wait with anxiety the possibility that, yes, perhaps this year itself, we see our favorite actor win the Oscar, we see that movie we are so excited to finish the night as the big winner.
But it is not important. The most important thing a night like tonight is to go with the festive spirit of the event, forget the real life problems and dive into this fantastic universe that is the Oscars.
Because this is our night. Enjoy. _______________________________________________________

THE OSCAR 2009: BEST MOVIE (EDITORIAL )

The film is a mirror painted, said Ettore Scola. A mirror that filters reality and reconverted to offer a unique and exciting art. This year, the average quality of the films that have competed at the Oscars has been a higher level than last year, but we miss masterpieces such as "There Will Be Blood" or "The diving bell and the butterfly." The five nominees for best film are there on merit, although some others might be pregnant. It is always difficult to choose what is the best ever. What can or criterior we should build?
Like all previous years in this blog are going to opt for one of the options. If the film is that, a painted mirror, as the great Ettore Scola, we would vote for "Slumdog Millionaire." Danny Boyle's film accurately reflects reality india, adentrándamos in slums, but also in the grandeur of its beauty. It's a great trip to this country, their traditions, their way of seeing life. A journey with no stereotypes, real, deep. India is not only the stage of history, but part of the film as a character. And without hesitation reflects the complicated lives of some of its citizens, the contrast wealth, poverty at its best. Where some see a gimmicky and superficial portrait of poverty in India, we see cruelty and reality unfiltered.
If cinema is also emotions, we would vote for "Slumdog Millionaire." The film is an overflow of emotions. It makes us feel, love, love. Brutally hits us then give us a message of hope as has rarely been filmed. A story of Jamal and Latika, which softens the viewer, what it involves and creates a complex romance from the misery and failure. Not indifferent, it is impossible to refrain from the torrent of emotions, all thanks to a great story adapted and battered by a great Simon Beaufoy from bestselling Vikas Swarup.
Technically, the film is nearly flawless. A large photograph of Anthony Dod Mantle, which allows us to feel the steady beat and frantic Bombay, a montage of Chris Dickens which gives the film a great speed, or a soundtrack that fits perfectly to the story told; ... all orchestrated by a wise direction of Danny Boyle, who knows a simple way to tell a gripping story.
Where some see an easy film and cheating, we see an honest film told from the heart, has no further intentions to make the audience enjoy telling a good and original story. Vote for "Slumdog Millionaire" would also vote for change in Hollywood, so new, so original. Certainly signal the feedback that the Academy is suffering in recent years.
"Slumdog Millionaire" is, therefore, our choice for best film. Which we think should win. But here's a message of encouragement for his detractors: our previous favorite, we wanted to take the Oscar ("Brokeback Mountain" in 2006, "Babel" in 2007 and "There Will Be Blood" in 2008) finally did not take the award. Here's a hope that I'll get: P
And the beauty of the film is that no single criterion, open space comments for each one, as we have done, explain what is for him or her the best movie this year and should take the Oscar.

THE OSCAR 2009: Some new more about the ceremony

We know that Javier Bardem did not attend the gala evening. However, rumors continue to skyrocket because of the secrecy with which the producers are taking the preparations for the ceremony. It seems that the writer, television host, political commentator and comedian Bill Maher present the Oscar for best documentary as revealed in yesterday's program.
addition, according to this web , Anne Hathaway has been rehearsing at the Kodak Theatre with Hugh Jackman apparently a musical number where they dance and sing. And it also seems to be confirmed the presence of Madonna on the red carpet, but do not know if the Queen of Pop will have some reward.

THE OSCAR 2009: BEST DIRECTOR

not happened since 2005 that the five nominees for best director match the five nominees for best film. This year it is, and as I said our colleague S. Rico this has not brought good luck in the forecasts. "Last time, in 2005, Ang Lee saw as his movie" Brokeback Mountain "was defeated by" Crash "(...) and in 1981, warren Beauty felt the same as the Asia director years later to see how not pronounced the name of his film, "Red", moments later, but was "Chariots of Fire" that could rise as the best film of the year. "
This year, the outcome speaks of a clear victory in the best director Danny Boyle and "Slumdog Millionaire" on film. Do you repeat the curse?

DANNY BOYLE: If only a few months ago tell us Danny Boyle was going to win the Oscar does not have believed us. The British filmmaker's career is full of ups and downs. In his films appear bright titles like "Trainspotting" or "Millions" with disappointments like "The Beach" or "Sunshine." However, his film has a special character. Always look for originality, detail, perspective. "Slumdog Millionaire" has served as a platform to excel, to endow his new film elements, and still see the reality, create a story that has captured the hearts of millions. Others do not see it. As tiooscar.com where say their victory "in the history of the Oscars will be remembered as one of the biggest mistakes of the Academy, as the awards to Crash for Best Picture or Best actor Roberto Benigni. Time to time. " is his first nomination

Stephen Daldry: Daldry The Academy loves. It is undeniable to earn three Oscar nominations for best director with his only three movies filmed. It is certainly a director of the detail, the sensitivity, which filmed the emotions of his characters in a way strenuous. His films feel, touch, transmitting, I collapsed ... pure emotions that seep into every frame. It happened to dancer Billy Elliot, with the grieving Virginia Woolf and also here Hanna's character. A priori, it is the great alternative to Boyle, but it seems you have to follow your heart in the fourth film to try to get the Oscar.

David Fincher Without a doubt, the best director of his generation. Tanning in the world of video, Fincher has given us modern gems like "Fight Club", "Se7en" and some even say, "Zodiac." "The curious case of Benjamin Button" is his most classic film, closer to the convecionalismos of Hollywood cinema. Of course, in this format, pampers to detail the technical section giving us a flawless film in this section and has the stamp of his great movies. A film misunderstood by many and praised by others to tears. Fincher always divides. In this case, too.

GUS VAN SANT: Of the five, without doubt, the most transgressive filmmaker. His debut was with a gay film called "Bad night." It would more relevant if we were not talking about 1982. Praise and criticism in equal parts, Van Sant has always created his film, he likes sailing from one extreme to another. "Gerry" and "Elephant" are two of the most paradigmatic examples of their films. With "Milk" back to savor the recognition of the Academy, which was only thought of him in 1997 with "Good Will Hunting." Returning to the gay theme, in this case Van Sant dazzles us with this great biopic of one of the largest gay activists in history.

RON HOWARD: That Ron like the Academy is more than demonstrated. With "A Beautiful Mind" won two Oscars as producer and director, and in this case returns to touch the glory with "Frost / Nixon." Criticized for its excessive classicism, Howard is one of those Hollywood filmmakers fleeing currencies to take refuge in the essence of cinema.

THE OSCAR 2009: The curses are served to create doubts

For S. Always
Rico during the 24 awards that rubs on the night of the Oscars, there are surprises that we end up liking them all and they become curses. Curses that warn us of the complexities of predicting the champions of more doubts coming years we played with out the names to be delivered at the ceremony.

For example, in the first place, is the third time in almost thirty years that the five directors and five nominated films are the same. A fact that has not brought good luck in the forecasts. Last time, in 2005, Ang Lee saw as his movie "Brokeback Mountain" was defeated by "Crash" (one of the biggest upsets in the history of the Oscars that will make us curse the movie forever) and, in 1981, warren Beauty felt the same as the Asia director years later to see how not pronounce the name of his film, "Red", moments later, without ouch was "Chariots of Fire" that could rise as the best film of the year.
We assume that the great duality is between those who applaud the subtlety of the planes and the aesthetics of a film like "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" that opens the door to the return of the "classical" Hollywood and among those who advocate a common global identity of cinema as is "Slumdog Millionaire" by the claim of Hollywood and Bollywood together on the same film. (While that itself with a story more dramatic than the previous charge, from my point of view). But, this duality will be overcome at the name for best adapted screenplay and will have been eliminated from the race.
Then where everything is at the expense of the winners for best adapted screenplay. Both will challenge resulting in the ultimate battle to win the best of the year. Battle where you can continue the above curse.
As for performance awards, the first question and curse haunts the best actor category where fellow workers have failed four times in the years of activity, the largest destination of the rest. However, it is the first time in 14 years that the union is the only one who disagrees with the rest, if we take the rest as Golden Globe and Bafta. Our adored Kate
runs with a bit of an advantage. Analyzing recent years, the resolution of the duality between two actresses has ignored the applause of the Screen Actors Guild, awarded to that recognized by the international press and the English academy, as happened last year between Marion Cotillard (Bafta winner and Golden Globe) and Julie Christie (winner of the Screen Actors Guild).
We will not stop the actor for obvious reasons, but the other big question: Best Supporting Actress. Here, let us refer to the Bafta award Penelope, the same award to Tilda predicted last year. However, it should not be as safe as the same Tilda got his praise to represent a film that could not fight hard in the other categories and could happen again.
Does exceed these curses and no longer have to go to them or happen again? Next Sunday we'll know.
